Accommodation near Volvo Trucks Tuve – where the crew should live when you work at the plant

Volvo Trucks' plant in Tuve is the largest workplace on northern Hisingen, and the only place in the world where the Volvo FH, FH16, FM, FMX and FML are assembled. If your crew is heading there — for a turnaround, an installation, a fitting job, or as contracted staff — the first practical question is rarely which gate. It is where people are going to sleep, and how far that is at half past five in the morning.

The plant: what is built there, and where it is

The Tuve plant sits at Norra Stenebyvägen 5, 417 45 Gothenburg, in the middle of Hisingen. It was inaugurated in 1982 and is Volvo Trucks' heavy premium truck facility.

A few figures for scale, from Volvo Group's own site:

• Around 2,400 employees from 35 nationalities
• 117,500 m² of facility
• Builds the Volvo FH (incl. Aero), FH16 (incl. Aero), FM, FMX and FML
• Also manufactures frame members, both for its own lines and for Volvo plants in other countries
• Roughly 65 % of the trucks are customised to order

That last figure is worth pausing on. A plant that turns a truck around in six hours does not stand still, and it shows in the shift pattern.

The shifts decide where the crew should live

This is the detail that settles it, and the one most accommodation providers do not know: frame manufacturing at Tuve runs four shifts, around the clock. The rest of the plant runs two shifts.

What that means in practice for whoever arranges the housing:

People come and go in the middle of the night. Accommodation with a reception desk, doors locked after ten, or a "quiet after 22:00" rule does not work. You have to be able to let yourself in at 03:40 with your own key, without waking anyone or phoning anyone.

People sleep in the middle of the day. A bedroom facing a busy street is a different order of problem for a night shift than for a day shift.

The car is at the door. Public transport runs, but it does not run in step with a four-shift rota. Most people working nights at Tuve drive themselves, which makes parking at the building a requirement rather than a convenience.

Our places in Tuve–Säve are chosen with exactly that in mind: parking is included, and you come and go around the clock with your own key. We have housed staff working at the Tuve plant, and those three things are what decided it every time.

Drive time to the Tuve plant from each district

The figures below are routed without traffic, from the centre of each district to the plant. Add a few minutes in the morning rush. Nobody can promise an exact journey time — these are here so you can compare districts against each other.

Two districts sit seven minutes away: Tuve–Säve, which is the plant's own district, and Kärrdalen–Slättadamm just to the south. That is where we place crews heading to Tuve when we have room.

Getting there without a car

Tuve has better bus service than most industrial areas on Hisingen, for the simple reason that the plant is there.

• Bus 141 runs Gothenburg Central Station–Volvo Tuve. The plant is the terminus, not a stop along the way.
• Bus 145 runs Volvo Torslanda–Länsmansgården–Tuve, between the two Volvo sites.
• Bus 44 runs Eketrägatan–Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen–Backatorp–Tuve.
• Bus 17 runs Östra Sjukhuset–Björkekärr–Tuve, from the mainland side.
• Buses 35 and 37 run north from Lindholmsallén towards Säve and Klareberg.

Frequency follows the working day, not the night shift. Always check current times on vasttrafik.se — the Hisingen bus network is reorganised periodically.

Volvo Trucks is not Volvo Cars

This deserves its own heading, because it costs people time every week.

Volvo Trucks (Volvo Group) builds trucks at Tuve, on Norra Stenebyvägen. Volvo Cars builds passenger cars at Torslanda, on the other side of Hisingen. They have been separate companies under different ownership since 1999, and the two plants are roughly a quarter of an hour apart by car.

Volvo Group's head office is at a third address: Gropegårdsgatan 2 in Lundby.

If the assignment just says "Volvo" — ask which one. A crew that books housing in Torslanda and then drives to Tuve every morning spends an extra quarter of an hour in the car, twice a day, for the whole project.

What the accommodation costs

From 159 SEK per bed per night. We price per bed and month, and furnishing, electricity, heating, water, wifi, bed linen, a washing machine and the final clean are all inside that figure. Nothing is added afterwards.

Crews usually share a three- or four-room apartment; site managers and anyone bringing family get their own. We never let to private individuals — companies and organisations only.

What we suggest for a crew at Tuve

1. Tuve–Säve if we have room. Seven minutes, parking at the door, and you come and go around the clock. It is the plant's own district.
2. Kärrdalen–Slättadamm as the second choice. The same seven minutes, a lower cost per bed, and plenty of room for service vans.
3. Björlanda if the crew wants quiet. Nine minutes, rural, and nobody disturbs a night shift sleeping through the day.
